In Delaware with Chris and Kyla

We arrived home from New York in time to bring our suitcases upstairs, eat a bit of dinner and relax a little before Chris and our granddaughter Kyla arrived for a long weekend visit. We were so excited to see them. It had been several weeks since we had been to Richmond and it's always so much fun to have them at our house for a change. They always have some things they want to do and we are pretty much at their command, so the visit included a trip to Ocean City, Maryland on Thursday, just for the day. The weather was quite cool the entire time they were here unfortunately, having been so hot just the week before! We had fun though, at the amusement park and walking the boardwalk tasting some of the awful-terrible-yummy beach food for sale everywhere! We were all worn out by the time we got home, well after 10.

Friday was to be a beach day and regardless of the need for sweatshirts on the beach, it was a fun day. We decided to go to Cape Henlopen State Park and at first Kyla was disappointed that there no big waves but she ended up having a good time and wore herself out by the end of the day. Saturday we drove to Philly and went to the Reading Terminal Market - the largest indoor market in the country I believe Chris said and that was quite an experience. Next stop was the Franklin Institute where an exhibition on Spying was the main event. Really fascinating and fun to read and see some of the things on display. A fun part was a tunnel you could go in - of course Bob and Kyla had to try it. They had a camera set up inside so those outside could see you on a black and white monitor as you crawled on all fours to get to the end. There also was a very cool exhibition on sports and you could try out lots of fun things - photos will tell more of the story.

They went home on Sunday and we miss them already!

Spy cameras - like inside a lipstick case!

Countersurveillance Pipe!

Pigeons carried messages and cameras to take photographs. To counter this effective method of spying, the Germans, during WWII trained hawks to take down the pigeons. Nasty. My Dad was in the Pigeon Corps but I never thought of it as a spy tactic but this made we wonder.

Bob and Kyla went through a tunnel and we could watch on a TV Monitor as they crawled out
