A busy week ahead

This week ahead is going to be a very busy one for us. We are going to Richmond on Friday to spend an "early" Thanksgiving with Chris and Kyla before heading to Milwaukee and our traditional Thanksgiving in Milwaukee with Jessica. I am still putting together my selections for the Children's Beach House Art Show (Dec 4-5-6) that are due just after we get back and have to be framed. Bob and I are excited to be included in the Coastal Gallery and Frameshop's annual "Small Works" exhibit which opens Dec 5 in Rehoboth and have to pack up our work and take it down there. We both have doctor appointments (routine), and hair cuts and I have my Read Aloud on Wednesday. So there's not much free time to be had!

If I don't get a chance to publish again, I wanted to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

New Watercolors: Minis

I got juried into the Children's Beach House Holiday Art Show and Silent Auction supporting children with special needs and their families. There is an opening reception Friday, December 4, 2009 6pm - 9pm (ticketed), Saturday, December 5, 2009 10am - 4pm and Sunday, December 6, 2009 Noon - 3pm, free to the public. I can show four large paintings, two unframed and 6 minis (max. 8x10 framed) so I've been painting some small watercolors. Here's a sneak peak at what I've working on. I have to finish all 6 and frame them before we leave for Thanksgiving at the end of next week so I will be working all weekend!! Let me know what you think!

Gala Appreciation Night

We had a wonderful gathering of the members of the Mispillion Art League at our home last night for a Gala Appreciation Night to thank those who worked so hard to make our recent Fundraising/Member Art Exhibit and Gala a success. Of the 29 people who RSVP'd to the Evite we sent only two were not able to attend due to illness at the last minute! Everyone brought a dessert/snack to share and our house was overflowing with conversation and laughter, filling every nook and cranny! It was a delightful evening. Thanks to everyone who came!

The Mural Project

Members of the Mispillion Art League, in particular Sara Gallagher (president) and Diane Deeney (hospitality) have been climbing up and down scaffolding painting murals of historic scenes of Milford based on old photographs from the historical society on the wall of the Salvation Army building on South East Front Street. Not an easy task, first drawings had to be made of each of the photographs and then scaled up and transferred onto the walls for painting, with Sara and Diane creating most of the art.

The mural project got underway in summer of 2008 with a break over the winter, and as soon as the weather warmed up they were back at it again. Bruce Aden, another member painted one of the murals and is starting a second. In all there will be six panels. For the "captions" Gervasio Ruiz draws the outline of the letters and Pat LaManna fills in with fine-tipped brushes. Members of the community have been delighted with the project, stopping to compliment the artists and offer encouragement. Other members of the league have contributed to the project and even Bob spent a morning this summer as well. Large scale works are not my forte but I should at least try my hand at it before they are finished!
