Seeing Philadelphia with Jessica

We spent some time in Philadelphia with Jessica this past week, visiting the historic part of the city where the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall etc are and at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, before dropping her off at the airport for her flight home. The weather was pretty cold on our museum day, so it was great to be inside seeing some of the world's great art. Here's a sampling of what we saw and did.

Christmas in Richmond, Virginia 2009

A Richmond Christmas tradition - going to the Crazy Christmas Light House!

Santa and Snowgirl! (the Phifers are the owers of the Crazy Christmas Light House!)

Decorations buried in the snow that blanketed the yard for an even more Christmasy feeling!

Making Gingerbread cookies and decorating them together - Kyla loved rolling out the dough, using the cookie cutters and decorating them - and she especially liked eating them!

We made snow flakes and ornaments for our little Christmas tree!

The many faces of Kyla!
(first, not loving getting her hair combed!)

Not a creature was stirring!

One of the homemade Christmas cookies in the box I bought from the local garden club - so cute! In case you can't tell - it's a half an Oreo (OK, this one was more assembled at home than actually baked, but it's adorable!) with a Hershey's Kiss for the face, and a maraschino cherry for the back end (the stem makes the tail!), pumpkin seeds for the ears and all "glued" together with chocolate frosting! So clever!

Snowstorm hits our whole family!

The east coast got slammed with a huge snowstorm over the weekend. In Richmond, it started on Friday - for us here in Milford, it started late Friday and snowed all night and the whole next day. We stayed in and watched the snow pile up higher and higher. I'm not sure what the final count was, but we think it might have been close to 2 feet! The most we have seen here for sure. Kyla had a ball - Jessica is there now and the three of them had a great time playing the snow, throwing snowballs - and shoveling lots of snow! Here are a few shots of Bob's from our neighborhood and Jessica's from Richmond.

Welcome my Sweet Peas!

I'm kind of excited and want to share this with you! I just finished two new little watercolors - as sweet as can be (If I do say so myself!) - what I'm calling my Sweet Pea Collection. Here's a link to the website where I hope to sell prints of these. They make a wonderful gift for a baby shower or a newborn baby. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Sweet Pea Girl

I want to do some other versions - maybe a generic yellow, something like that. I welcome your comment and suggestions!

Reminiscing about where we were two years ago!

In December of 2007 we lived in Vietri sul Mare, on the Amalfi Coast. Can't help thinking about it at this time of year! Here are some photos that we posted on December 11, 2007 on our Italy Blog.

Mispillion Art League Opens New Gallery Space!

The new Mispillion Art League logo! (designed by Rosemary)

Mispillion Art League's new home!

The main gallery at 5 North Walnut Street

Friday evening, the 4th of December the city of Milford held its annual Holiday Stroll. Downtown businesses were open late, offering free refreshments, horse drawn wagon rides, Santa & Mrs. Claus and live entertainment. It was a very festive evening and a great start to the holiday season!

I am excited to tell you that the Mispillion Art League opened its doors at our new space at 5 N. Walnut Street, right on the Riverwalk in downtown Milford, a building recently restored from being quite an eyesore. At one time, this was a local hardware store and original Milfordians reminisced about the old days, happy to see the building being used once again. We hope this is the start of a real renaissance in Milford, Delaware. The new logo I designed was on view to the members and citizens alike and was well received.

We had a terrific turnout!! Everyone who walked through the doors was impressed with the space and enjoyed looking at the art and talking with neighbors. We offered holiday treats and hot drinks and the work from our 6th Annual Members Fine Art and Fine Craft Show graced the walls. Angela Prattis was voted “People’s Choice” and a raffle was held for Cathy Walls’ donated artwork.

We kicked off our fundraiser “$100 from 100 donors” and had several people write checks on the spot with Dan Bond, owner of the Ladybug Shop, the first to sign up! Let me know if you are interested in donating.

Musicians from the Delaware Music School stopped by the play some Christmas music on their violins and even Santa and Mrs. Claus dropped by for a visit!

We had an even bigger crowd as the night wore on!

Raffle tickets were sold to win Cathy Walls' donated painting

...and the band played on...outside the Riverfront Theatre

Sara Gallagher - our president and the driving force behind the new space

Our fundraiser $100 from 100 Donors got off to a successful start!

Santa and Mrs. Claus took time out from listening to wishes to visit our new gallery
