Watercolor Journaling at Lavender Fields - Reunion

Today was the Reunion at Lavender Fields in Milton. When I taught the 6-session workshop this spring everyone wanted to plan a reunion so they could get together again for another lesson in September. MaryAnn, one of the owners and a workshop participant and I decided on the date and thought it would be so nice to include a "Victorian Tea" at the end. Five Seasons Tea offers these "Teas" at Lavender Fields on select Saturdays and agreed to do one for us today.

What a lovely day! The weather couldn't have been better. Days are now turning cooler and it was definitely sweater weather but the sky was blue, not a trace of rain and all was perfect for journaling outdoors. We worked in the classroom for about the first hour and spent the rest of the time outside.

After everyone had a chance to journal around the gardens I gathered them all at the picnic table under a big old tree and asked them each in turn to show us what they had been doing since we last met and the journals are wonderful!! Suzanne had gone to Europe and journaled; Morgan completed a sketchbook challenge to complete 75 pages in 75 days - all pen and ink; most journaled during vacations or just in their backyards. It was immensely gratifying to learn that many of them have shared this activity with friends and family - children and grandchildren - and the joy keeps spreading. I couldn't be happier. Some of them expressed an interest in my Yoga/Watercolor Journaling Workshop in November. (see my website for a complete list of upcoming workshops) Some I will see plein air painting, and hopefully they will keep in touch. I'm delighted to have had the opportunity to meet and work with them and share my love of journaling for them to embrace and now run with.

Lavender Fields Farm is the only lavender farm in Delaware and is a wonderful place to visit while you vacation on the eastern shore. It is located one-half mile south of U. S. 9 between Lewes and Georgetown at 18864 Cool Springs Road. The ideal time to visit is July, the peak of the bloom season and the fragrance of lavender hangs heavy in the air. The store maintains regular hours 10:00 to 4:00 every day June 1 to October 1 and on Saturdays and Sundays, from October1 to December 31, but will open almost every day if the weather is nice and someone is working in the fields. Other times visitors can call for an appointment at either 302-684-1514 or 302-684-1602.

Here are few photos from our day. Sorry, they do seem a bit jumbled and not in the right order, but you'll get the idea of the kind of day it was!
