Cooking Class at Abbott's Grill, Milford DE
I had the pleasure of attending a Cooking with Fresh Fish class at our local restaurant, Abbott's Grill yesterday morning. Chef Kevin Reading taught us all about preparing different kinds of fish, from how to remove the skin and "bloodlines" to mixing up awesome sauces and vinagrettes to preparation techiniques and what type of salt to use for what purposes. I learned a lot, met some nice people and enjoyed each of the 3 meals (Tuna, Mahi Mahi and Salmon!) prepared for us by these talented chefs.

Named "Best in Milford" in the 2010 edition of Delaware Today's "Best of Delaware," they serve lunch, dinner, happy hour and offer live music at the bar and a beautiful outdoor patio. Abbott's Grill offers everything from soups and sandwiches at lunch to some unique entrees at dinner. They have been a great addition to and supporter of the Milford community since their opening - a happy day here in our town, let me tell you! These are the same guys who own Nage in Rehoboth Beach-- Kevin Reading & Ryan Cunningham -- so you know it's something special.
Fresh Ingredients
They are avid supporters of Farm-to-Table and I quote Delaware Today: "During the heart of the growing season, about 90 percent of the ingredients utilized at Abbott’s are grown locally. That’s a lot of product, and a lot of it comes from very close by. “Where we are in this area, there are a lot of opportunities to find farmers,” says chef Ryan Cunningham. He goes to Bob Russell Farms in Milton for tomatoes, Colvine Farms for fresh bison meat. In Bridgeville is grower Kevin Evans, and in Clayton is Small Wonder farm, a hydroponic grower that seeds everything from Bibb lettuce to hybrid squash. Fifer Orchards and Kirby & Holloway are Abbott’s purveyors, as are Dogfish Head, 16 Mile, Tröegs and Evolution breweries."
They offer Dinner and a Movie on Sundays at 6:30, $6 Burger night on Tuesdays, Open Mic and 1/2 price bottles of wine on Wednesdays and so much more. I hope you'll check out their website and stop by for a bite. They are located at 249 NE Front Street, Milford, DE 19963 and they're open 7 days a week!
