Brooklyn Museum of Art Visit
We spent a few days in New York City this past week. I was teaching a workshop in Watercolor Journaling at the New York Open Center Friday evening and all day Saturday. We arrived in the city on Wednesday and had a nice visit with my brother and sister-in-law who live there and then moved into our very comfortable digs in Greenwich Village, compliments of the Open Center. What fun!
We had a great time exploring the area (photos to come) and on my friend and artist Marcia (Gallery 37) Reed's suggestion we visited the Brooklyn Museum of Art to see the exhibit "Gravity and Grace: Monumental Works by El Anatsui." We were totally impressed with this amazing work and were also surprised to learn that we could photograph the work - not something you are usually allowed to do with works that are not part of a museum's permanent collection. Better yet, if you are within driving, walking, taxi-cab, bus, train etc. distance from the Brooklyn Museum and haven't yet been there, I urge you to go. This exhibition was scheduled to come down on August 4 but I understand they have extended it - for how long I'm not sure, so don't wait.
