Christmas Lights NYC 2010

The tree at Bryant Park

Two days after coming home from Richmond for Christmas we drove up to New York to see my brother Fred and sister-in-law Elaine who had invited us to come up for a few days. We always love New York City at this time of year and Fred and Elaine always manage to show us the best! We walked over to Bryant Park where they had a huge Christmas tree and ice skating rink, plus a temporary cafe that didn't look temporary at all. Then over to Rockefeller Center where the very big Christmas tree is and the even bigger ice skating rink and all sorts of beautiful light displays and decorations, including a light show on a building across the street that was lovely too.

Mountains of Snow were piled up everywhere from the Christmas snowstorm

We stopped at the market in Grand Central Station and made our way through the crowds at "Eataly" - "... more than a supermarket with restaurants. It is an energetic marketplace, an opportunity to taste and take home the products of artisans who till, knead and press to bring you the highest quality products at fair price....the absolute best Italian producers from every region under one roof and the absolute best chefs to cook their wares...." - (to quote from their website) A fabulous place I'd like to visit again after the holiday craziness. Incredible!

Fred treated us to a mouth-watering lunch at Mario Batali's restaurant "Otto" - where we enjoyed antipasti of eggplant caponata, white beans with soffritto, broccoli and pecorino, octopus with celery, fennel salad with apples and walnuts, fusilli with a pork ragu and a Margherita D.O.P. Pizza with tomato, bufala mozzarella and basil. I only regret not having taken a photo of the table spread before us! We finished it all off with a machiato and gelato - Bob and I shared one that was like a cassata cake. Amazing.

Great pics of Bryant Park! We were there last year at this time. You are correct, there is nothing like NYC during the Holidays. 24 inches of snow in Vermont today!
Keep the pictures coming. Best to the both of you.
